Jesus lifted up & drawing all of us to Himself

together in our city and generation

This is our Heartbeat. It defines who we are, why we’re here, what we’re all about — and it all starts with Jesus.

Jesus, Himself, is every dream come true. He’s the Healer, the Good Shepherd, the Friend of Sinners, the Light of the World. He touched lepers, opened blind eyes, blessed little children, raised the dead. The truth of His gospel liberates us from the lies of our age that keep us bound in scarcity, sin, fear, and meaninglessness. And so we long for Jesus to be the One who is “lifted up” among us — seen, known, trusted, and cherished for all He’s worth. And as Jesus gives Himself to us and for us, we get to give ourselves to Him. He draws every one of us and every part of us out of bondage, into all we were made for: the freedom of belonging to Him. We live this out in relationship with a particular community of people, as champions of our particular place, speaking into the aches of the particular time in which God has put us to love Him.

“And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw all people to myself.”

— JOHN 12:32

Our Pillars

Our Heartbeat gives rise to these three Pillars, which are the center of gravity for our life together as a community of faith.

Adoration

Our first calling is Jesus, Himself —

to know His holy love; encounter His presence; bless, welcome, wait on, and adore Him. We were made for His embrace. Sitting at His feet is the “one thing needed.” Loving Jesus is where we start, where we’re going, and how we get there.

Vocation

As people who belong to a God this good,

it’s our vocation to live in and receive His healing, leadership, community, gifts, burdens, hope, and formation into every part of us and our story. God’s calling, purpose, power, and presence fill every heart, every home, every day.

Commission

As Jesus draws us to Himself

we are united in love to the One who seeks and saves the lost, sharing His heart and participating with Him in His work. God manifests the signs of His life-giving Kingdom in us — His sons and daughters whom He has filled with His Spirit. We dignify, support, celebrate, resource, and commission people into the full-time ministry of their everyday lives, with Him.

Our Values

Simplicity

The “narrow way” of Jesus invites us into a life of holy subtraction. In humility, we resist over-complicating and over-committing, preferring focus and margin, making room for Him to be all-in-all. We resist the ”temptation to be spectacular,” resting in the truth that the presence and love of Jesus is success, not what we can perform or accomplish in our own capacity.

Redemption

There is no person Jesus cannot bring from brokenness to holiness when we give ourselves to Him. There is no life He cannot redeem. There is no part of our pain or mess that does not belong with Him, no part of our sin that He will not touch with healing, forgiving, sanctifying love. He’s the God who is “rich in mercy.” And as His Body we welcome every person, no matter what their story is, just as God in Christ has welcomed us — knowing that He both loves each of us right where we are, and loves us too much to leave us there.

Place

We enjoy and delight in the place we call home. We receive the wise, life-giving limits God has given us as people He has planted here. He has called us to belong to, celebrate, and care about the life of this city, this neighborhood. God’s work and Kingdom here are bigger than just us, and so whenever possible we champion and join in with the fruitful things already being done by others in our community. And we offer, with a spirit of unity and humility, what God has entrusted to our church for the sake of this place He loves.

Legacy

We receive the gift of our spiritual inheritance from Rwanda, who played a key role in launching the renewal movement we get to be a part of. Like them, we live to leave a generational legacy of faith in our own historical moment. We include and welcome young people to lead and serve in our community, launching them into life as men and women of God. We mark and tell the God-stories of the ways He’s moving in and around us, so that we do not forget Him and who He’s made us to be. We want to see our great grandchildren in love with Jesus and filled with His Spirit a hundred times more than we are.

BETHANY ANGLICAN CHURCH

Our Name

Bethany was Jesus’s favorite place in the world.

It was a place He loved, and a place where He was loved. It was where He was received, wanted, welcomed, chosen, listened to, delighted in — and where He gave the gift of Himself and His presence to His friends. Bethany was a place Jesus loved to be, and in which His life and ministry were beautifully, wonderfully present.

He wants to know us and live with us like that. We want Jesus to make us into a Bethany for Himself here and now, in our generation — a place where He delights to dwell, and from which He can reign with healing, holy love. A Bethany-church, filled with Bethany-hearts, where the King of Glory feels at home.

What We Believe

Bethany rests and thrives within the largest worldwide movement of protestant Christians — Anglicanism.

With roots stretching all the way back to the earliest centuries of the undivided Church, this ancient way of following Jesus speaks with profound resonance to the aches of our modern world. Learn more about our beliefs and what this way of being Christian looks like.

Our Family of Faith

We have the honor of living in committed gospel partnership with other amazing followers of Jesus across our city, state, nation, and world.

In particular, the COS Anglican Network and Anglican Diocese of the Rocky Mountains are two of our closest associations through whom we are also in relationship with God’s people around the globe — from the Front Range, to Rwanda, all over the U.S., and beyond.
